Last May I decided to stretch out and took a course to become certified as a SongShine instructor. In January, Penelope Bacsfalvi and I started teaching a group at the North Shore Neighbourhood House. The course is designed to help those whose speech has been affected by Parkinson’s, stroke, other neurological disorders or an aging voice gain vocal power and strength. The course offers:
- vocal exercises and group singing to strengthen voices
- body awareness, relaxation and breathing techniques
- drama-based activities to spark imagination and encourage emotional expression
Our first 10-week session was successful and there was a demand for a continuing session, which we’re offering from April 7th to June 6th at the North Shore Neighbourhood House.
I’m also running an 8-week course at Highlands United Church on Mondays from 1 to 2 pm from May 1st to June 26th.
I had the pleasure of doing an interview with my good friend Nathen Aswell for his radio show “For the Love of Music” for Self Discovery Radio on May 13th.
Check out this great article on SongShine that ran in the North Shore News, Sunday, May 7th, 2017.
